Meet Jasmine

Jasmine Barnes is a proven leader with the expertise, integrity, and vision to serve our community. A Certified Public Accountant with over a decade of experience in public, private and governmental accounting and auditing, Jasmine has built a career focused on accountability, compliance, and delivering innovative financial solutions. She has led external and internal audits, developed internal controls, reviewed financial statements, and ensured compliance for organizations across multiple industries. Her expertise includes overseeing multimillion-dollar projects, designing and implementing financial controls, and providing financial oversight that drives sustainable results.

In addition to her auditing expertise, Jasmine owns and operates J Barnes CPA, PLLC, where she specializes in tax resolution and comprehensive accounting services. Through her firm, she helps individuals and businesses navigate financial challenges with clarity, confidence, and attention to detail.

A proud graduate of the University of Mississippi and member of the Ole Miss Alumni Association, Jasmine is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA). She is currently pursuing an Executive MBA at Millsaps College, a testament to her commitment to continuous growth and leadership development.

Throughout her career, Jasmine has mentored current and future professionals, empowering them to succeed academically and professionally. She co-founded an initiative that brings high school juniors and seniors to Jackson State University’s campus to a week-long immersive experience, offering them exposure to accounting and finance professions. Now entering its sixth year under Deloitte’s support, the program continues to thrive. While she now takes on a backseat role, Jasmine continues to participate annually by presenting workshops, judging competitions, and building connections with students to inspire the next generation of leaders.

Her mentorship extends beyond Jackson State. Through her leadership roles in the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), where she served as President and Vice President, Jasmine has engaged with accounting and business students at Jackson State, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss, fostering connections and inspiring aspiring professionals. Her involvement with these programs demonstrates her commitment to creating pathways to success for students across the state.

Jasmine’s commitment to service extends beyond her professional accomplishments. Recognized as one of the 2024 Top 40 Under 40, she is a dedicated community advocate. She actively supports her youngest son, Atlas, through JPS’s Early Childhood Program. For her oldest son, Kingston, she serves as a PTA Board Member and Room Mom, championing educational initiatives and organizing events at his school. Jasmine also assistant coaches Kingston’s basketball team with their father, fostering connections through sports and teamwork.
